Due to the pressure to “succeed,” and “have it all together” we can find ourselves portraying life as a highlight reel, while we secretly suffer with emotional pain in silence. INSERT ME! I have certainly been there, and am now on a mission to disrupt the curated façades.

For far too long we have been told to “be strong” and “don’t let them see you sweat.” But my biggest flex as a therapist, is to help you understand and embrace ALL sides of who you are. I will be your safe space, especially for the emotions you keep hidden from most of the world.

Whether working with individuals and couples in therapy, people often aspire to “get in control” of their lives, or their relationships. But they are quickly taken aback when I explain that being in control is an illusion. So much of our suffering hinges on us trying to control what is outside of us. I help clients to look internally, and truly connect with what they do have control over- their beliefs. We can take charge of our thoughts, and how we interpret our circumstances, in order to create a better life!

I have always had a strong desire to work with high-achieving Black women. This is why I became a #BlackGirlDoctor! As someone who personally identifies as a high-achieving Black woman, I find joy in treating the emotional/mental health needs of this burnt out population. My approach is non-judgmental, collaborative, interactive, and compassionate.
I apply various scientifically researched techniques including cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, emotion-focused, and acceptance and commitment therapy. My specialty clinical areas are anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, substance use, race-based stress, and couples therapy (communication, conflict, intimacy, sexual satisfaction, and sexual confidence).

My educational background began at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (shout out to my FAMULY!). As a proud 2X FAMU alumna, I’ve earned a B.S. degree in psychology and a M.S. degree in community psychology. I then matriculated to the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology (VCPCP) where I earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I completed an APA accredited internship at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, followed by a yearlong postdoctoral fellowship at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. I have over 10 years of clinical experience with adults and couples in various settings including college counseling, corrections, hospital medical centers, and private practice.

In addition to my clinical work, I’m a certified clinical sexuality coach and sexpert. In 2022, I released Sexfirmation Cards ®, the FIRST sexual wellness card deck designed for women. This innovative tool helps women boost their sex confidence and enhance their intimacy by developing a sexual self-care practice. My expertise has led me to become a sought-after resident relationship/sex expert for ESSENCE Magazine, and featured contributor in XoNecole, Bustle, and Madamenoire.
Originally from Orlando, Florida, my experience as a military spouse has led to the unique opportunity to reside in paradise (Honolulu, Hawaii)! Daredevil at heart- while living on the island of Hawaii I plan to learn to surf, become scuba dive certified, and cage swim with tiger sharks. When I’m not listening to Beyoncé, I love spending time with husband and daughter, exploring the beautiful beaches of Oahu, and trying new foods to expand my cultural palate.

So…. let’s get honest, have you been getting in your own way? If you know the answer is YES, and you’re ready for a transformation, I’m here to help and empower you. Your journey of personal and relational healing starts now!
